THE ADOPTION PROCESS

We have implemented guidelines to ensure that the new owner and pet will live happily ever after:

Why buy when you can save an animal’s life – many of the pets that pass through our doors have been abused or neglected and dealt a rough hand in life.

STEP 1:
VIEW OUR PETS

You are also welcome to meet the animals on-site at AWSS during our open viewing hours.

STEP 2:
APPLY ONLINE

We highly recommend completing an online adoption application ahead of time to expedite your visit! Our goal is to help you find the perfect pet, based on your personality and lifestyle - so we may suggest other animals that we think are a better fit.

If you are unable to fill out a questionnaire online, we have paper copies available in person.

STEP 3:
MEET AND GREET

All meet and greets will occur at the shelter (unless otherwise specified) and are an opportunity to meet the pet and for a staff member to discuss with you the information you've provided and the needs of the pet you've chosen. If they believe that both you and your chosen pet are a good match then they'll arrange for a home inspection.

STEP 4:
HOME CHECK

All adoption applications are subject to home check approval.
An AWSS representative will visit your home to ensure that it is a safe and suitable environment for a pet.

Virtual home checks will only be accepted when adopting a cat.
You will be notified of the outcome via telephone.

STEP 5:
ADOPT!

Once the adoption has been approved, you pay the adoption fee and take your new family member/s home for a lifetime of love!
